Community Guidelines - Oboko

Welcome to Oboko. Our goal is to create a safe, trusted, and respectful platform where travelers, property owners, hotels, apartments, tour operators, and tourism service providers can connect with confidence. These Community Guidelines apply to every user of the Oboko platform. By using Oboko, you agree to follow these Guidelines.
1. Be Honest
Always provide truthful information. Do not:
- Create fake accounts.
- Use false identities.
- Provide misleading information.
- Upload fake property listings.
- Misrepresent your business or services.
Honesty builds trust within our community.
2. Respect Other Users
Treat everyone with dignity and respect. Do not:
- Harass others.
- Threaten users.
- Use abusive or offensive language.
- Bully or intimidate members.
- Engage in discriminatory behaviour based on race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, gender, age, or other protected characteristics.
3. Keep Listings Accurate
Hosts must ensure that listings accurately describe their properties. Listings should include:
- Genuine photographs.
- Accurate descriptions.
- Correct pricing.
- Current availability.
- Real amenities.
Misleading listings may be removed without notice.
4. Respect Bookings
Guests should:
- Arrive on time.
- Respect house rules.
- Leave properties in good condition.
- Communicate changes promptly.
Hosts should:
- Honour confirmed reservations.
- Provide the accommodation as advertised.
- Maintain clean and safe premises.
- Respond promptly to guest enquiries.
5. Leave Honest Reviews
Reviews should reflect genuine experiences. Do not:
- Post fake reviews.
- Offer incentives for positive reviews.
- Use reviews to threaten or extort another user.
- Post defamatory or abusive content.
Oboko may remove reviews that violate these Guidelines.
6. Protect Privacy
Respect the privacy of others. Do not:
- Share another person’s personal information without permission.
- Publish private phone numbers, addresses, or identification documents.
- Use information obtained through Oboko for unrelated marketing or solicitation.
7. No Fraud or Scams
The following activities are strictly prohibited:
- Fake bookings.
- Payment fraud.
- Identity theft.
- Phishing.
- Chargeback fraud.
- Money laundering.
- Attempting to bypass Oboko’s booking or payment systems.
Violations may result in immediate account suspension and referral to law enforcement where appropriate.
8. Communicate Professionally
Use respectful language in all messages. Do not:
- Send spam.
- Send repeated unwanted messages.
- Use hate speech.
- Share sexually explicit content.
- Promote illegal activities.
9. Follow the Law
Users must comply with all applicable laws and regulations. This includes laws relating to:
- Tourism
- Consumer protection
- Data protection
- Intellectual property
- Taxation
- Public safety
10. Intellectual Property
Respect intellectual property rights. Do not upload or use:
- Copyrighted images without permission.
- Trademarks you do not own or have permission to use.
- Pirated content.
- Counterfeit materials.
Report suspected infringement to Oboko.
11. Safety First
Guests should:
- Verify booking details.
- Report unsafe conditions promptly.
Hosts should:
- Maintain safe accommodation.
- Ensure emergency exits and safety equipment are available where required.
- Comply with applicable health and safety standards.
If you believe there is an immediate risk to someone’s safety, contact the appropriate emergency services before contacting Oboko.
12. Reporting Violations
If you encounter behaviour that violates these Guidelines, report it through the Oboko platform or contact our support team. Reports should include:
- A description of the issue.
- Supporting evidence where available.
- Relevant booking or account information.
Oboko will review reports fairly and confidentially.
13. Enforcement
Depending on the severity of a violation, Oboko may:
- Issue a warning.
- Remove content.
- Suspend listings.
- Restrict platform features.
- Temporarily suspend an account.
- Permanently terminate an account.
- Report unlawful conduct to the relevant authorities where required.
Oboko reserves the right to take action to protect the safety and integrity of the Platform.
14. Updates to These Guidelines
We may update these Community Guidelines from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the Platform or by email before they take effect. Continued use of Oboko after the changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Guidelines.
